Testimonies: Bobby: The Real Reason
When I was saved as a teenager, God began to work in my life in such a way that it was obvious I would be going into the ministry. I mentioned in the previous page, that I told the Lord I would do anything he wanted and go wherever with one exception, I didn’t want to be a missionary and I didn’t want to go to Africa. The church I attended would occasionally have missionaries come and speak to the youth group. I never looked forward to these times because I thought the missionaries were “nerds.” They always looked like they were trapped in a time warp, like a “blast from the past.” - They would come into the SS classroom dressed in mismatched plaid and striped outfits. The ties they wore were as wide as a football field, they had duck tape holding their glasses together and well, they just didn’t look very good. And, as a superficial teenager who was concerned about outward appearances rather than inward convictions and passions, I told the Lord I would be willing to do whatever he wanted me to do, but I refused to dress like that!
In the words of Paul Harvey, “…and now you know…..the rest of the story.”
